Yes, I can hear you, Clem Fandango!

They can still eat shit since they STILL fund anti-lgbtq organizations, to my knowledge.

But even if the technical side of security is top notch, infiltration would be trivial…
Yeah really bad opsec all around in a LOT of these groups, but I’m not really sure how you organize without a means of communications. I think collective ownership of the means of communication is just as important to laborers as collective ownership of the means of production.

Honestly, I’m really less worried about myself and more worried about people in more dangerous situations where the cost of such a thing dwarfs even the cost to me. There’s tons of people out there who are being actively monitored by their governments and they simply can’t afford it. Like all the dirt poor immigrants being deported to countries they have never been to.

I think his name was Cornelius.

I get their reasoning but it fucks over a lot of people without the finances to always buy a brand new google devices and who absolutely need that kind of security.
Really grinds my gears because in the end it means only the moderately wealthy really get the benefit.
I have a pixel 6a I got refurbished and I dont have options but to make it last as long as I can and I’ve already had to change the battery manually once myself.

Sounds like a massive class action suit waiting to happen.

Think methheads stealing wire are bad now? Just you wait and see.

Also genuinely only idiots think it surpasses human intelligence in any way whatsoever.

It’s almost like there is rampant corruption going on or something!!

I had never used Matrix outside direct messaging so I was unaware of the lack of key revocation.

Windows DNS (I’m sorry)
Lmao. Hey what works for you is what works for you, don’t let naysayers steer you wrong.

It pains me that new achewood is behind a paywall. I understand it, I can’t justify affording it.

My fleet sounds bigger than it is since theyre all small or older and also small underpowered devices (repurposed laptops, low end chromebox, various pis).

i think you have to set up DoH with unbound to make it not be in cleartext? I dunno honestly I’m a dummy, but I’m fairly sure that it’s pretty tricky to get it totally secured. I guess I don’t understand why you can’t use ubound recursively but have its root.hints pointing as something like quad9 instead of all the actual root authoritative dns servers, theres like 13 of them and more than half are the US government.

Lubuntu definitely seems about the lightest weight desktop environment for it for sure. I suppose Ubuntu server can be pretty light… But so are most linux servers, that’s kind of their selling point.
MaddieM added even more that I thought was salient in another response:

Bringing an on-going discussion from outside into a thread with which it bore no relationship, The correct way to proceed is to alert mods, sysadmins or another participant in the discussion privately. What happened is akin to someone walking into a restaurant and seemingly randomly punching another patron. They’re going to get thrown out.
Damn what a completely out of touch response. Many people point out that this was basically a badly handled abuse report that a user brought to a main thread instead of reporting, however that does not and never did justify the original and continued ban of the first person to report on it.
I am especially galled by the “and ad hominem attacks on another user (even if it turned out they deserved it).” bit. Dude, maybe someone’s motivations matter. Acting like attacking someone’s motivations are always out of place is part of what lets this kind of shit fester and grow. Everyone has motivations, and a lot of people’s motivations are deeply unsavory.
Bruh my Kubuntu minimal install. Welp. *sigh que sera sera, we all move on sometime.

This might sound like an off-the-wall suggestion, but waaaaaay back in the day, Trent Reznor was in on the torrent game, he had an account on Oink.UK way way way back. He described it as the best music store in existence.
It’s a shot in the dark, but reach out to him, that’s a person who could really help something like this become a reality who has the money and the knowledge of the music legal system to approach it. He also likely has similar ideology, as evidenced by his joy at Oink.UK. I know he cares about how much artists get paid and wants it to be better, he also understood the value proposition Oink offered. Anyway, perhaps the kind of famous person who could help this project really get off the ground.

** I’ll admit I had an account there and frequented it quiteoften. At the end of the day, what made OiNK a great place was that itwas like the world’s greatest record store. Pretty much anything youcould ever imagine, it was there, and it was there in the format youwanted. If OiNK cost anything, I would certainly have paid, but thereisn’t the equivalent of that in the retail space right now. iTunes kindof feels like Sam Goody to me. I don’t feel cool when I go there. I’mtired of seeing John Mayer’s face pop up. I feel like I’m being hustledwhen I visit there, and I don’t think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc. Amazon has potential, but none of them get aroundthe issue of pre-release leaks. And that’s what’s such a difficultpuzzle at the moment. If your favorite band in the world has a leakedrecord out, do you listen to it or do you not listen to it? People onthose boards, they’re grateful for the person that uploaded it — they’re the hero. They’re not stealing it because they’re going to makemoney off of it; they’re stealing it because they love the band. I’mnot saying that I think OiNK is morally correct, but I do know that itexisted because it filled a void of what people want.

This is a really interesting idea, sitting here reading the website. The main issue for current artists with deals with record labels would be needing to re-negotiate rights so they are allowed to “distribute” it in such a way.
But yes! I too have had the same thought for years about bittorrent as distributed cloud storage! Thank you for trying to make that a reality!
I will patiently watch this project with great interest. I am sorry to say I am far too broke to contribute at the moment, but I have high hopes that you succeed nonetheless!
I am an old fart and still find pretty solid deals on craigslist.
