If longform video is your thing, I would highly suggest Nebula. I’ve paid £27.30 for a years subscription. Creators say they get paid fairly and can make content without censorship. It has been exactly what I’m into.
Not only are they not necessary, they’re actually harmful to existence. Admittedly I use YouTube somewhat through privacy front ends, but quitting all the others has been great for my health. Using nebula has also minimised my use of YouTube.

4 daysIf you can’t repair or use that, it will still sell for quite a lot these days on eBay.
I don’t have many alerts setup, but I use Mattermost anyway and I send alerts into a Mattermost channel. Sonarr and Radarr report when a download is complete. Jellyfdash reports when someone outside my home starts streaming something over Jellyfin.

I feel bad for anyone building now. I built my gaming setup + NAS and server PC and upgraded my Steam Deck in the past 2 to 3 years. Going to get as much milage out of these as I can till things settle down. I’ve changed all my Docker services to lower resource alternatives to keep things running on my existing ram.
Then in 5 years when things have only gotten worse and this is the new norm then I’ll cry alongside everyone else. Or maybe China will get their fabs up and running and swoop in to undercut these bastards to save us all.

11 daysI still follow some webcomics and search for things occasionally on Reddit. Using Redlib has been fantastic. Don’t need to worry about their interface changes. Don’t need to worry about having an account. Just input the few subscriptions I need into the Redlib docker container. All my devices are setup to redirect Reddit links to my Redlib deployment.
I’ve recently watched and thoroughly enjoyed the movie “Normal” and would highly recommend it. Bob Odenkirk is really good in it.
Technology@lemmy.world•Stop bringing your phone in the shower: How steam can ruin 'waterproof' phonesbycRazi_man@europe.pubEnglish
15 daysEveryone uses their phones while eating or pooping. Those activities don’t take long either. I choose to listen to something while showering.
It’s ok if you don’t understand it or do it yourself, but some people take their phone into the shower. It is a thing.

Technology@lemmy.world•Stop bringing your phone in the shower: How steam can ruin 'waterproof' phonesbycRazi_man@europe.pubEnglish
15 daysI do it all the time. Before smart phones were a thing I had a water proof shower radio. Now I use the phone for the same thing. Mostly listening to news or a podcast or something. Sometime it’s a Nebula video, but in the shower I’d just be listening to it like a podcast anyway. Before phones were waterproof I used to use a waterproof Bluetooth speaker.
I’ve never had steam cause a problem, but then again my showers aren’t long, aren’t very hot and my phone is kept pretty high up and out of the way.
Privacy@lemmy.dbzer0.com•LG smart TVs caught logging audio with screen off and snooping on local devicesbycRazi_man@europe.pub
1 monthI keep my LG TV permanently disconnected from the internet, but there’s no good option for a smart TV interface. I use a Fire TV stick and use Pi Hole to sanitise it to some extent. My home server sits behind my TV cabinet and I eagerly watch the progress of Plasma Bigscreen. Kodi interface is ass. We badly need a good option for a privacy friendly Smart TV interface.

4 monthsSame. Except work seems to block my cloudflare tunnel so I have to use Synology reverse proxy.

This is with a discount code. I remember discount codes being offered out by some creators on YouTube to encourage people to join Nebula. I obviously don’t look anymore, but you will likely find one of you look around and wait.
