  • What’s the AI policy? I hate even bringing up AI since I’m so sick of hearing about it but what I want to know is that is this just an AI generated project that was generated over a weekend and will be quickly abandoned or does it have active thoughtful development? I couldn’t tell from the website or commit logs

It’s impossible to tell if projects are worth investing time into these days and it kills me inside :(

  • I’m being told to use AI more and more too and I’ve managed to get by without selling my soul to it but idk how long I’ll be until I get let go just because I’m not dumping hundreds of thousands of slop code daily. I’ve been hearing more and more coworkers talk about how they haven’t written any code in weeks and are now just checking up on their agents occasionally and it’s filling me with actual existential dread and depression. I’m positive it’ll all come crashing down but if it’s not soon then maybe I’ll drop the career I’ve wanted nearly my whole life and take up farming or something because watching vibe coding infect the whole software field makes me want to shoot myself

I genuinely think I’d have preferred no-code shit to have taken over instead of this because at least that takes some actual thought and effort to use

  • Either you apply the same standards of criticism and ridicule to individuals and corporations, or your argument doesn’t hold water.

That’s exactly what I’m doing though. Imagine standing there with a bullhorn shouting that you just downloaded every available movie, show, research paper, news article, etc and you’re now profiting significantly off of it, as an individual. You’d get sued into oblivion if you weren’t sent to prison first.

I still think pirating is okay and that the US twisting the world’s arm to enforce the DMCA is fucking BS but if we have to suffer with it then the billion dollar companies should have to too

  • They’re not really prosecuting people for piracy, so why would they go after large corporations?

One group is poor individuals and the other is a billion/trillion dollar industry that’s basically gloating about pirating at an industrial scale.

Going after individuals for downloading a 4Gb rip of a movie doesn’t make any financial sense but it makes a lot more sense going after companies downloadinh millions of gigabytes and have more than enough money to pay damages

So it’s strange to continue attacking individuals while covering your eyes at the big companies

  • Yeah strong black/white opinions on AI annoy the hell out of me. I find some AI tooling really helpful like fancy line completions and using conversationalLLMs as a last resort to solving problems, but I hate anything to do with agents or vibe coding in general if only just because I don’t want the field I enjoy so much being entirely replaced with being a project manager for a computer.

It makes me frustrated trying to talk about this stuff on Lemmy or other places though because it always ends up being two battling sides of “A SINGLE GENERATED CHARACTER MEANS THE ENTIRE PROJECT IS SLOP!!!” and “ANYONE WHO ISN’T VIBING OUT MILLIONS OF LOC WITH 100 DIFFERENT AGENTS GOING AT ONCE MAY AS WELL JUST KILL THEMSELVES!!!”
