• Oops.

Just like that I stopped using their services.

The transition from Google Maps to the MapQuest app was essentially seamless. I’d do it again. 10/10.

Land of the weak, home of the cucked. And you thought only kids could get fucked by a pedo.

  • NWS probably has their hands tied. AccuWeather on the other hand is run by bootlickers. They’re deep enough in that sphere that Trump tried to put the CEO in as the head of NOAA during his first term. They’ve tried unsuccessfully lobbying to restrict NWS’s free forecasting (the one we all pay for) because it was interfering with their business model. I’ll leave the sexual harassment problems as an exercise for the reader. These are shitheads who were shitheads long before this. Don’t use that service.

All my homies will hate AccuWeather form now on.

Nice! This looks so cool, I love their visualisations so far. This might even rival my love for windy com

      • Check out the settings. You can pick exactly what you want for each section. Love the options.

SpotWX is what I use for accurate weather and the ability to quickly check several different models. I learned about it in my avalanche course and it’s been great albeit with a subpar UI

      • By models are you referring to the weather source? WeaWow let’s you pick from multiple sources, though I don’t know if it’s comparable.

    • If you want a similar open source option for Android (without the globe map), Breezy weather is great. It’s on fdroid and you can also get it through obtainium. You can choose the weather source.

      • It doesn’t have WeaWow’s extensive widget options, nor does it seem to be able to just follow you around wherever you are and get the current conditions for that spot - you have to add locations to a list. My job has me going all over the place, so that’s not in the least convenient.

        • There are around 20 customizable widgets and you absolutely can use GPS location weather.

My dream is for the Weawow project to continue for another 200 years, until we reach Type 1 on the Kardashev scale.
Because at the current level of human civilization, it is not possible to make 100% accurate weather forecasts, I believe that it is necessary to compare and consider many data sources.
But in 200 years there will be no more weather FORECASTS services, but 100% accurate weather PLANNING services.

        Is this satire? I can’t tell anymore…

        If so, hilarious.

If not, my friend chaos theory would like a chat.

Have you tried Windy.com? It’s my website of choice for making weather-based plans.
They use Mapy and OSM maps.

      • I might have to try it again. A while back I did try a windy app, but it wasn’t great. Might have been an older version on last phone with older OS or a fake windy.

I’ve always used ventusky.com for a weather map like that, but I can’t speak to its accuracy. It’s just fun to look at.

    • Discovered it from your comment, immediately fell in love and donated. Thank you! :)

    • The one thing that drives me nuts about it is the location name. It just looks wrong to me to show only the city name without the state abbreviation - especially after a full street address.

  • Accuweather probably did this gleefully.

But seriously, they cannot be their own map provider, right, That makes no sense. Probably what happened is the map provider finally did it.

Yr.no is a nice weather service and it still shows lake ontario for me (though I’m not in the US and leave it on norsk instead of bothering to change to English)

    • The folks most concerned about such a change are those who live in the US since I’m assuming only we are exposed to this stupidity eg European providers aren’t renaming shit based on a lunatics directives. For us yr.no is hard to adjust to since it supports the english language BUT only uses Celsius. I’m aware metric is superior but at least for me I have to mentally translate from A->B and celsius is used nowhere but in the sciences here. EG its not a great alternative

For me, in the EU, google maps shows “Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)” and “Lake Ontario (Lake America)”.

google maps will sometimes show different borders depending on where you access it from as well.

Personally I try to use OSM where I can, but streetview can be really useful sometimes.

      • You wouldn’t have to calculate if you just start getting used to it. Just remember what it’s based on and stop clinging to the fahrenheit scale like it’s a lifesaver and you’re about to drown. Or keep a separate app running side by side set to C and get a feel for the translation if you want, but really you’d be better off switching to metric as your native scale entirely.

It may be mostly used in sciences, but given that weather is typically the only temperature based thing you probably need to look at regularly (outside of cooking/baking maybe- and you don’t really need a feel for how 375 is different than 400, just set the oven correctly), it’s not that difficult.

I did it just for kicks, and looked at both readings (F and C) for a while, and got the feel of it pretty quickly.

I want to do the same for length/distance next, which is more difficult.

But if you don’t just want to, it’s hard to find a good reason to, tbf.

America is full of cunts and cowards too afraid to stand up against a pedophile.

    • Spoken like someone who has absolutely no idea what it’s like to try and organize people scattered across a fucking continent.

Specifically a continent with very poor access to public services that would make organization easier.

A continent where even speaking out can cost your your job and therefore Healthcare.

A continent where your neighbor might be someone who agrees with you, or they might blow your head off because they thought you might vote for a lefty.

A continent where the government has already threatened to murder any citizen they want just for fighting back against their authoritarian boot. A continent where your closest regional capital might be hours away.

My state is larger than most European countries. The logistics of organizing real action on this scale is insane. And a lot of very rich people have spent a lot of money for a very long time to make sure it’s as hard to do anything about their tyrannical bullshit as possible.

The best most of us can do is vote, try and organize like-minded people locally, and survive the next week.

        weird ideas

you guys did vote and got what you wanted

you don’t own Canada and Mexico yet you’re just a country in north America

Turns out, some people can vote for candidate A and get candidate B either way.

Especially considering that US electoral system works in a way that even if the majority of the population chooses candidate A, candidate B can still win the election.

Iirc, this is exactly what happened to Trump, at least on his first term. Most votes were for Clinton, but Trump won anyway.

Your position could be understandable back in the day when it was mostly Russia and China who acted like that, and so it could be easy to feel superior by ignoring the objective factors getting into the equation. Nowadays, it spreads, and remaining ignorant about it will likely bite you in the not-so-distant future.

I have the power to vote, sign petitions, go to protests. I’m too poor to donate money. That is the extent of my power. Trillionaires run everything and have all the power, and guns. I stick to my liberal, socialist beliefs and do my best to help everyone I can. What is it you want me to do?
