That would almost count, if it was significantly different at this point.

They’re isn’t one positive thing to say about it at all. Not even one.

16 daysYou wouldn’t have to calculate if you just start getting used to it. Just remember what it’s based on and stop clinging to the fahrenheit scale like it’s a lifesaver and you’re about to drown. Or keep a separate app running side by side set to C and get a feel for the translation if you want, but really you’d be better off switching to metric as your native scale entirely.
It may be mostly used in sciences, but given that weather is typically the only temperature based thing you probably need to look at regularly (outside of cooking/baking maybe- and you don’t really need a feel for how 375 is different than 400, just set the oven correctly), it’s not that difficult.
I did it just for kicks, and looked at both readings (F and C) for a while, and got the feel of it pretty quickly.
I want to do the same for length/distance next, which is more difficult.
But if you don’t just want to, it’s hard to find a good reason to, tbf.

16 daysFor starters, maintainers are getting bombarded with “contributions” that are just generated code, because now unskilled coders that can’t even write a “hello world” project are just dumping what they think are great ideas without doing any kind of quality control at all.
Just having to be educated enough to even build a project was a very important barrier to the amount of submissions.
Now any Tom, Dick, or Harry can submit endless amounts of shit to a huge amount of different projects.
Maintainers can’t keep up with the review process for this level of garbage. This has gotta be killing huge amounts of projects, or at least slamming the brakes on them.
Personally I’m totally in favor of some kind of foundational killswitch within compilers that just detects AI output and refuses to compile. Now that just kicks the can down the road because other compilers exist, but you get what I’m saying.
I can’t be arsed to trust any AI code AT ALL. So every single character of it is poison IMHO, but given what it’s currently doing to the industry already (and the fact that we’re still a single digit amount of years into its existence at all), nothing good causes this many problems.
We’re a lot closer to solving capitalism than we are to making any of the effort out towards AI being useful. Until then, any attempt at making it good will just be helping fascists have more tools at their disposal.
It goes way deeper than “but it helps me do stuff”. That opinion honestly reads as if you’re gen alpha.
And even in a perfect world where capitalism is barely remembered as a bump in the road to civilization, I will never be able to trust any code not written by humans. The kids will call that whatever the millennial insult version of “boomer” is, but I hope that attitude never goes away.
If you’re doing your own thing, and you wanna add in some slop code to finish up a little change to something, you go right ahead. But don’t you dare submit that to any actual open source project.

17 daysAll “generated code” hurts open source, actually.
If there’s ever a question that starts with “should we ban AI”, I vote yes. Delete the post and ban/block the user, first offense, no negotiation. Period.

I haven’t played this since the time I ended a friendship over the phone while fragging.
It had nothing to do with the game, but I’m pretty sure that was the last time I ever logged into it.
Fucker literally offered me 20 bucks to convince my sister (who he had never really met outside of maybe seeing her at school) to go on a date with him.
Anyway, I fucking instantly and wordlessly hung up. I asked him to repeat it to make sure I hadn’t heard him wrong or to see if he was kidding, and he doubled down on it. Hung up and never talked to him again. I knew him from high school and given when Quake Live started, (and how early I tried it) it was several years after I would’ve graduated college (if I ever finished it).
I hadn’t even talked to him for a while, it was kind of a “hey how you been” kinda call/conversation until he brought that up. Never heard from him again. Heard a small mention of him from a mutual friend that he felt bad about it but I don’t care. I wouldn’t have cared if he offed himself about it, I am still just as pissed today, and if I ever have to interact with him again I will let him know exactly who I am and what I remember about him.
But given that I barely played any Quake games, this story is what I think about when QL gets brought up.
I hope he’s still depressed somewhere.
