Cloudflare acquires the team. Deno gets one year or security updates and bug fixes and that’s it.
A really sad ending for deno. Spent a lot of time trying to get my team at work to consider deno instead of nodejs. The writing’s been on the wall for a while but now it’s officially over. Also I guess this means bun won?
Bun is owned by Anthropic and they’ve been vibe coding a port to Rust, so I’m not sure that’s much better.

5 daysYep, I would say Node has won.
They were prodded along by the success of Deno and Bun to add features like type stripping and a test runner, and maintained 100% Node compatibility the whole time. I dabbled in Deno and wished it well, and appreciated the better security of JSR over NPM, but that’s been caught up.

I’m interested in quickjs and consider implementing enough Node.js APIs using its core to run EviKit, but it won’t happen soon and won’t be a load-bearing project, just an exercise in how far I can go without LLMs.

Cloudflare, Inc., is an American technology company headquartered in San Francisco, California
What ever happened to challenging oracle’s trademark over “JavaScript”? It sounded like deno was putting up a good fight for a case of trademark abandonment.
they’re gatekeeping half the damn internet at this point. if they decide you’re a bot or a threat or otherwise, you’re barred from half the fucking websites that rely on them

I use Linux, VPNs, Firefox, etc. These have all given me access problems with anyone who does custom bot prevention implementations, but I’ve never had a problem with a Cloudfare site.
good for you, better hope you don’t because if you ever get put on their shitlist you’re effectively banned from the Internet

But its the website or service that use them. I can’t blame Cloudflare if the company or service pay them money to do it. Is there a better solution? They are not the problem, they just try to solve the actual problem we have, but Ai spammers and bots all over the internet.
I agree that Cloudflare gets too much power of the internet, but its because this is currently the best solution the industry has. Which is sad I know, but what would you do in this situation?
