Games@lemmy.world•'Support Modders, Not AI' — Modder Deliberately Corrupts Their Own Hugely Popular Total War: Warhammer III Mod as Row Over AI Escalatesbyyesman@lemmy.worldEnglish
3 daysIt’s sad to see a mod community impose the concept of IP on itself. But I can understand the frustration of seeing your project being shit on by slop holes.
Games@lemmy.world•"Why should we just give up the entire month of November?" – The indie games going head to head with GTA 6byyesman@lemmy.worldEnglish
5 daysThere are plenty of gamers who are going to pass on GTA6, sure. But Rockstar is absolutely going to dominate the kind of gamer who pays full price on launch. Rockstar is going to vacuum up everyone who enjoys this type of game as well as anyone susceptible to FOMO or hype.
PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•PC User Says G.Skill Made Him A “Customer For Life” After Replacing A $150 Kit Now Worth $1,199byyesman@lemmy.worldEnglish
6 daysDon’t you think it’s a big problem for the ‘market theory’ of value that producing and raising children, perhaps the most important human activity, is low-wage or entirely unpaid?
Do you believe that the economy would be better if women stopped having worthless children?
Econ101 makes perfect sense, unless you think about it.

Technology@lemmy.world•EVs are now 9 times cheaper than petrol or diesel to drive in the UKbyyesman@lemmy.worldEnglish
7 daysdepreciation per mile is usually a bigger cost than fuel.
OK, this might be something that a fleet manager would care about, but the average driver wouldn’t consider in a hundred years. You don’t have to swipe your card and pay for depreciation every four days. Not to mention that depreciation has no bearing on vehicle type and little connection to physical reality at all.
And if anything, EVs maintenance is lower than expectations. There is no robust recycling of EV batteries for instance because it turns out that the batteries last reliably for 30 years and most of the ones produced are still in service. Also EVs are by nature simpler, with many components being solid state. ICE are rube goldberg masterpieces, the result of decades of continuous development.

Technology@lemmy.world•I Deliberately Bet Like a Problem Gambler. DraftKings Made Me a VIP.byyesman@lemmy.worldEnglish
9 daysCasinos have operated like this for years. People who loose lots of money get flown to VIP events with free hotel, meals, concerts, and even mix with movie stars. People are employed as concierge to these gamblers, so it’s not MGM calling and encouraging you to gamble, it’s Beth or Stephen.
Gambling is just theft with extra steps. I’d ban all of it, including the lottery.
Linux@lemmy.ml•People always making fun of Linux update for making their sound or networks drivers stopped working. While Windows update outright corrupt your biosbyyesman@lemmy.world
9 daysThe worst part about Windows Update is when it functions as intended. They’re going to re-install Edge, turn OneDrive back on, and shove Copilot into Explorer, Notepad, and Paint.
This is all for your security.
Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon Illegally ‘Bricked’ Older Kindle Models, Class Action Suit Claimsbyyesman@lemmy.worldEnglish
10 daysI have a Kindle Touch and IDGAF if it can connect to Amazon. I don’t connect it to the internet because I’m afraid it’ll update and break. Right now I’ve got it set to never sleep because the wake button doesn’t work. But that little hack only works on old versions of the firmware.
The only service I wanna connect my kindle to is Calibre.

16 daysSimi-related fun fact.
The biggest contributor to TOR is the CIA. They funded it’s creation and are primarily responsible for maintaining it to this day.
The CIA maintains TOR as a way for spies to pass information over the internet. They make it public because if only spies used TOR it would be trivial to catch them. So it’s in their interest that it be public and secure. It’s open source and security experts agree you can trust it.
Technology@lemmy.world•Marvel's Wolverine motorcycle section and quicktime events are getting the wrong kind of attention because "the game plays itself" and "you don't have to press anything"byyesman@lemmy.worldEnglish
17 days“Motorcycle section” puts me off this game more than anything else I’ve heard.
To my ear, “motorcycle section” screams single-level set-piece on rails with minimal gameplay designed to show off explosions. Just like that level where you man a minigun out the door of a helicopter. You know the one, from every game released in the 2010s.

I don’t hoard video files, so 1TB still seems unimaginably vast. I was shocked when I learned my entire CD collection, ripped to FLAC, would fit on my phone. 100TB is like a billion dollars, my mind has difficulty understanding numbers that large.
