  • I don’t want to convince people that the good they do in the world is ineffectual. That is counter to my interests.

There is no poimt in waiting or hoping for a catalyst or even talking about it, since no one seems to know what this catalyst is, all it does is shift the initiative outward, makes people stall, makes people limp and faithless in their actions, wastes emotional energies, etc. I don’t see any positive effects.

Of course people need to organize. But how the fuck will anyone organize when even the prophets do not believe!

  • Inference is a thing.

    Not government.

Only 3 (a minority) are unauthorized police installations. Police in the example in the article are going rogue likely with some tacit support.

    What’s left?

Someone with time, money, utility trucks, experience in mounting cameras, someone with networking resources and experience to store and analyze data.

Who is that? This immediately excludes 99.99% of the population. We can infer, assuming the article is not fake news, it’s almost certainly a corporate entity or an estate of a very high net worth individual or family.

We can ask who has the motive and the capability not just to install many flagrantly illegal cameras but also to collect, analyze and use the information?

Mounting unaccountable cameras on public utility poles is an act of war. It’s not a foreign entity, because that would start a big stink if it were. That means almost cedtainly these are our local energy and labor extractors: corporates and/or billionaires (or otherwise very high net worth actors).

  • I don’t know how a self-destruct code will work, but if you have password A get into profile A, while password B gets you into a plausibly looking and normal profile B while profile A and password A get deleted, then you can claim your phone was always and ever the way profile B shows it. It doesn’t look or feel “destroyed.” It’s just a normal profile with mundane messages, browsing history, contact list that makes sense, etc.

Good luck proving that anything fishy happened when the whole operation looks and feels like unlocking a normal phone.

You can even setup biometric login to be password B. So if someone gets into your phone with a fingerprint, which feels very normal, they see a normal boring and completely plausible profile.

There is absolutely a way to make phones secure if there is enough will.

That said, it’s a political problem that’s begging for a political rather than a tech solution.

  • Mildly informed speculatuon:

In-browser ad bkockers may use anti-anti-ad-blocker filtering rules.

I am pretty sure uBlockOrigin does this by default. But I can’t be sure about the rest at the moment, although my guess is, even the other ad blockers will likely allow at least optionally to set up a filter to remove anti-ad-blocking code from your private copy of a web page you’ve loaded from the net.

DNS filtering naturally will still load all the anti-ad-blocking code, because DNS filtering does not analyze the contents of your private copy of the web page in question.

I am of the opinion that you should NOT have to know all this before you can have a decent and safe experience on the net. It’s shame.
