You’re right, of course. People prefer centralized platforms, and we “nerds” prefer decentralized ones.
There are no alternatives.

But Google is pushing its own AI at the top of its searches. As if search is going to “soon be deprecated”.

A computer must be part of the process so no human has to take the blame!

Incredible how software companies can be actively hostile to customers.

IRC is great. The challenge is picking a client for the family, and getting them set up. It’s not friction free.

Jitsi is good as an ad hoc communication tool, but it won’t replace a “chat / sms” tool. I took a small peek at SimpleX, and it looks quite complex. Not sure if it really is.
An interesting point! I’ve heard others say they prefer gridlock in Washington.
