Wherefore call we grasses blades?
They are elder of the name
of things of earth for wreckage made,
and they that call them for their bane.
The grasses care not for the word
or for causes of their ails,
but stand erect as best they can
against the day the blades shall fail
and quiet once again shall come
to the places long they lived.
They'll lift their slender arms above
with never a thought to us to give.

Technology@lemmy.world•MIT named best university in the United States for engineering and computer sciencebyqueerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zoneEnglish
7 daysWithout looking it up, I have no idea what significance US News and World Report has beyond giving awards to universities. They’re like J.D. Power and his mysterious associates, but for higher ed instead of cars.

8 daysOh, I see what you mean. I wonder when the last OoT remake will be. They just remade Nosferatu 100 years later. I could see it happening.

8 daysI think video game remakes will be a thing long after millenials are gone, just like movie remakes. And I bet most of them will be disappointing, with the occasional faithful or even surpassing remake, just like with movies.
It would be cool to chart the distance in time between the original video game and all remakes. It’d be cool to see which games get evergreen remakes, and which go through unpopular periods before a renaissance. People will always remake the classics, but I bet most remakes will go in a cyclic fashion of cashing in on middle-aged nostalgia.

That’s a feature. every instance gets to set and enforce their own rules. The users get to decide which communities (and their attendant rules and admins) they participate in. Humans don’t suddenly become more immune to the follies of power, but power is more distributed and (so far) are less likely to be captured by monied interests.
If you’re waiting for humans to suddenly stop falling for the temptation to abuse of power, I think you’ll be waiting a while. I think it’s a significant improvement on the centralized corporate model.
