Cake day: June 22nd, 2023
  • This month, I’ve continued trying to make small times somewhat regularly to write. It’s been fairly successful, though there were defiantly weeks I didn’t write anything. I want to continue to keep up the momentum this month, though I know it will be hard since I’ll be spending quite a bit of time with my family at the end of this month. My goal is to continue making time to write twice a week (both weekend and work week).

In the spirit of sharing, I also was to share the prolog for one of the books I’ve been working on. Some specific questions: how does the writing tense feel? Is it too strange, does it feel overly ungrounded? Does opening on a dream work, or does it feel a bit overdone? I hope that because its a description of inspiration is doesn’t feel as over used as the wake up from a nightmare scenario. I am a big fan of my opening line, but am curious on how other people might feel about this opening.

    Anyways. here’s a link I hope will work :)

edit to add: I don’t know why its highlighted in green. If you know how to change that, please let me know lol

  • This month has been chaotic for me. I’m finally moved into my new house but am in the midst of quite a few projects. I’m currently living in my basement while I fix and refinish the wood floors on the main floor. This sadly means I haven’t gotten to set up my new office space :( though i did rip out a closet and replace some rotten boards in the room that will become my office.

I have gotten some writing done, though it hasn’t been a particularly productive month. Most of what I’ve written has just been journal entries and a few short essays. It’s not anything super great, but it does keep me in the writing mindset & keeps the words flowing.

This month my goal is to at least continue writing little things. Story ideas, journaling, commentary essays, stuff like that. Maybe adding to my longer story in little chunks. I also have a few grant proposals I will need to write.

As a streach goal, I hope to have my floors finished so I can at least move all my office stuff into the space it goes. It would also be nice to get another chapter of my book drafted.

Mostly, I’m just trying to keep in mind that any progress is progress. As long as I’m writing something, I’m on the right track.

  • So this month went by in a blur, my sister stayed with me, and my full time job started up again. I haven’t done much work on my book, but I have done a few story outlines/concepts over the month when ideas came to me.

They’re probably not stories I’ll ever flesh out fully. It’s still fun to imagine entirely different story concepts and plots. Plus it feels refreshing to soend some time writing and thinking about other stories after being so invested in one particular project.

This month, I’m hoping to have my new office area set up and do a bit of work on my book. Write a chapter or two and do some editing. Mostly my goal is to keep writing now that I’m back to working full time & getting settled in a new house.

  • So my goal was to work on actually editing some of the scenes I’d already written for a sci-fi story. I have tons of scenes drafted out, but am a huge slacker when it comes to editing. Unfortunatly, I ended up deciding to move houses & haven’t done much writing at all this month.

I’m finally all packed though, and am basically just in waiting for closing dates in my current and future house to arrive. I’m hoping having all my distractions packed up & nothing to do will help make July a much more productive month.

I’m hoping to have my opening chapter edited, maybe write a few more scenes, and tighten up my proposed timeline to match with my outline.

& just for more information: The story centers around a protagonist who creates a way of augmenting the human mind. This opens up many new possibilities for what humans can be, but of course there are those who seek to monitize and control the technology. The story will take place over an extended period of time as humanity is radically changed by technology. Themes include the necessity of understanding and controlling the tech we use, boundries of the self, and what it means to be human.

I have another project that takes place in the same universe but instead centers around a found family of heavily modded space travellars. It’s a much more playful series focusing on queerness, counter cultural spaces, & creating meaning in a meaningless universe. I bring it up because the two stories are closely linked & I often jump between the two. The queer space story is one I daydream about more, but the augmented mind story has a stronger plot and is a more traditionally sci fi story.

Heres to hoping this month is one with lots of time spent writing the days away :)

  • My goal this month is to finish the scenes I’ve started for my book (I have 3 very rough drafts), and to do some more adjusting to my outline.

My less specific goal is to spend more time focused on one project, rather than jumping around to different stories every time I write.
