THE PANOPTICON GROWS

Correct. Just like the Flock cameras that “do not identify individual people” but actually do contain the software and stash the raw images for processing faces and identifying features.

You joke but killing general purpose browsers to sandbox everyone into curated apps would give most middle managing MBAs a priapism.
THE PANOPTICON GROWS

“Please keep piling on the hype fomo train we have every single one of our eggs in this one basket”

Because their $8k snap-on scantool and AllData subscription doesn’t plug into it anymore. That’s just them being lazy and/or not having the time to find old service manuals

OBD1 is fine if you know how to deal with it. The second generation throttle body fuel injection from gm is crude but works as are most of the obd1 systems… They’re usually simple enough that no advanced diagnostics is ever needed.

The ECU in my 1991 Chevy k2500 is little more than a desk calculator that can turn throttle position into injector duty cycle and ignition timing. Good luck advertising companies.

They claim it’s “zero knowledge” proof through Google pay, meaning that Google will know you paid Signal, and Signal knows you paid them, but there is no link between the two that uses your PII payment info to identify the Signal account. I’m inclined to believe them.

Raspberry pi is public. They have a clear profit motive behind the upsell. Clear as day.

I knew it was happening the second they mentioned “IPO”. Company was cooked.

DO IT FOR THE VINE MESH!!

…They’re making ar glasses?

Yes with the asterisk that a decent amount of the off-grid hardware hidden in trees around the country will probably never get a firmware update. Because people have either forgotten about them or can no longer reach them. It’s already a big issue with orphaned nodes running outdated firmware clogging up the default LongFast channels in more densely populated areas.

So to the surprise of no-one, it can and does take and send photos of pedestrians and faces, just like Flock assured us it doesn’t. Sure the camera itself does not run facial recognition, but those images are still being sent back home which means they ARE processing them.
Also the amount of errors and instability they describe is fucking hilarious. Thse cameras are built like shit.
it’s so secure not even I, the owner can get in
(I forgot the password to truenas scale)

I can’t imagine inputs are very high for this, at all.
The tooling for the cartridges is probably only a few bucks a unit at absolute most. And most of that is in plastic injection molding. The entire 2600 memory stack can be condensed onto a microscopic IC these days as they werent more than 64kb in bank switching, and bringing the already developed code over is an intern’s weekend project.
This is a massive nostalgia-powered money grab.
What do you mean “tried”? Cities are implementing that unilaterally. It is already here.
