Uh yeah there is. Which that my games and software run without issue on Windows whereas on Linux I have to constantly fiddle with shit to make it work. But no one’s ever honest about that.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Steam made an estimated $1.7 billion in September, an all-time new recordbydreamkeeper@literature.cafeEnglish
3 daysGabe is only one step below a venture capitalist on the scale of evil. He only invested in Linux as a hedge against the windows store, and steam only has “good customer service” because they were legally forced to offer refunds.
Gabe intentionally destroyed physical games on PC almost two decades ago. Now you have no guarantee of keeping your library and there’s no used PC game market anymore, which raises prices for all of us. Go look at used console games, they’re always cheaper than PC ports even when the ports are on sale.
Gabe made gaming worse, not better. People moan about not owning things anymore yet praise this billionaire fuck who literally pioneered that concept. His actual good contributions to gaming were HL1 and HL2 but in the end he only ever cared about making money.

3 daysJust use heroic for gog games. It isn’t that big of an issue. You can launch games using proton through heroic without relying on steam.
Or if you’re really lazy, just add gog games to steam and then play them.
Point is if you actually want to buy more from gog then there’s nothing stopping you from doing that.

3 daysGog is right there but let’s just encourage more monopolization and centralization in our economy because Gabe good
Steam fans are such weirdo cultists. It takes basically no effort to use heroic launcher to play games on Linux, gog’s refund policy is infinitely better than Steam’s (30 days with no playtime limit), there’s zero DRM and you can install games without any client at all.

5 daysYeah definitely not optimistic it’ll keep working

6 daysExactly. They definitely care. They want the AI companies coughing up dough for all that data.
Thankfully redlib still works

9 daysI don’t think it is. The keyboard was awful on every iPhone I’ve had. I always switched to gboard instead because of it.
Technology@lemmy.world•Stop bringing your phone in the shower: How steam can ruin 'waterproof' phonesbydreamkeeper@literature.cafeEnglish
9 daysSame. I like to listen to music or podcasts in the shower sometimes. I’m not standing in the water with my phone but sometimes it gets wet because I change sometime. I’ve never had an issue

Palantir’s such a psychotically cringey company. Acting like flying a MacBook from a desk in Miami is some warrior shit. God I hate them so much. What’s worse is they actually do help kill people but never have to come face to face with it.
On top of that their cringe is infecting other tech companies. Like the term “forward deployed engineer”. Because you know, implying that you’re at war with your customers is definitely healthy and appropriate.

In the industry Tesla is known for being incredibly hostile towards women who work there. But yeah I doubt most people outside tech would know that, though they probably wouldn’t be surprised.

Most Americans don’t care about defense contractors. They hurt foreigners we don’t know, unlike Palantir which intentionally hurts Americans in addition to foreigners.

Tesla and Palantir. I doubt anyone cares if you work for some no name enterprise company like Initech.

Games@lemmy.world•Xbox lays off 268 more employees, merges Obsidian into Bethesda and puts Activision in charge of Halobydreamkeeper@literature.cafeEnglish
14 daysSony still has good IPs to fall back on, despite all the goodwill they’ve lost lately. The PS6 will sell just fine as long they launch it with a couple recognizeable titles.
Xbox is in deep shit because first of all, they’re competing with themselves. There’s no reason to get an Xbox if you have a PC. Secondly their IPs are trash. They ruined Halo and people don’t trust Bethesda anymore. Although I do think a new ES game would still print money.

15 daysMeanwhile they promote misogynistic vitriol that enables violence against women.
Fuck Meta. They’re a terrorist organization and should be treated as much.

Oh hell no it isn’t “once”. I’ve been running Linux machines at home for various purposes for well over a decade and I’m constantly having to learn new shit. Especially because some distros will break things with updates and you’re on your own to figure it out much of the time.
Linux is easier now than it’s ever been but it’s certainly not nearly as user friendly as Windows or Mac. It’s also an intimidating topic to approach with an overwhelming amount of info that the typical the user never needs to think about otherwise (what’s a distro , what DE should I use, how do I install software on my distro, etc). the aggressively unsympathetic community doesn’t help either.
Some of that isn’t the fault of Linux but the truth remains.
