
I mean, you can host servers on a laptop. I ran my Minecraft server and a few web apps off my laptop when I was a kid. Had to get my parents to do the port forwarding as I didn’t have access to the router login, but otherwise was quite straightforward. And before someone says “so you needed your parents”, I’m sure some kids can figure out the login/their parents may be using the default login and would not be savvy enough to figure out their kid had set up a port forward.


Sure, a lot of school devices don’t have great controls though. I played Minecraft on the school computers. A good chunk of the devices that kids are using to comment on podcasts or whatever, a user will be able to run their own executables on. Some school computers explicitly allow this so they can teach kids to code.
