3 daysI made the switch a while ago and I’m much happier with the result. It’s far from perfect, but it’s free from the jankiness and random bullshit that comes with a Google product. At least you know what you’re getting with Apple. And the hardware is far superior and is supported for a long time.

3 daysI use the browser all the time, but tbh they really don’t need to offer it. Safari with Wipr2 is perfectly good. I just use Orion on my work laptop as a separation of work vs personal.

Technology@lemmy.world•TiVo Plans to End Free Automatic Commercial Skipping in November, Tests Paid Premium Replacement Servicebybaggachipz@sh.itjust.worksEnglish
29 daysGather ‘round kids, time for a story. The year was 2003, and TiVo had defined the category of DVRs and instantly become indispensable. People loved that they could fast-forward through commercials, much to the chagrin of networks and advertisers.
But a new competitor entered the scene: ReplayTV, a product that did everything TiVo did with one major added benefit: it automatically detected and skipped commercials without having to press a button. It was glorious. So naturally, like all things which improve the life of a consumer, the powers-that-be took umbrage. Funded by TiVo lobbying, the FCC decided that not having to press a button on a remote was a bridge too far. ReplayTV was crushed by a heavy fine and ban, relegating them to the tech scrap heap. Thus TiVo maintained their position as market leader, despite having an inferior experience.
All this to say: fuck you TiVo, you wasted your brand clout and position by getting into bed with the same lawmakers who fomented your demise when the HD era was legislated to ban commercial-skipping mechanisms.

Shamelessly stole this from a HN post:
Can you name the truck that’s been recalled twelve times, Costs less each month 'cause nobody’s buying mine?
Cybertruck! Cybertruck!
(Whip crack!)
Her trim falls off when you drive through rain, The steering locks up on the highway lane!
Cybertruck! Cybertruck!
Top of the line in utility trucks! Started at a hundred, now they’re slashing bucks!
She’s got a price that drops faster than her resale value, And a windshield wiper motor that’ll surely fail you!
Cybertruck! Cybertruck!
(Whip crack!)
Twelve recalls in a single year! Drive-by-wire that fills your heart with fear!
The accelerator pedal pops right off the floor, But Elon says it’s you who doesn’t love her more!
Cybertruck!
She rusts if you look at her wrong in the dew, The tonneau cover works… for a week or two!
She’s marked down like a Kmart blue-light special now, A stainless steel disaster and a broken vow!
Cybertruck! Cybertruck!
(Whip crack!)
Whoaaa, Cybertruck!
CYBERTRUCK!

It’s a fund which invests in the highest-dividend stocks which, coincidentally, has almost no “ai” exposure. Basically old blue chips that are more tried and tested. Of course nothing is immune from the coming implosion, but it hopefully mitigates the risk.
