Yeah… I wasn’t aware of that. I think I tried apps like Control4 and Sonos and couldn’t find them, and then bailed (this was a few days ago).
The apps I saw when opening it, just (at least at first glance), didn’t really feel like top tier apps, but I might try it again, as I didn’t know you could add more repos
What I’m really hoping is that Steam opens a Android App store
I hate to say it… I tried F-droid, but I simply found no apps I wanted were in it :(

Trump has no idea how AI actually works, and he likely didn’t get anyone else to check it

6 daysIt generally is with Apple
I used to sell their gear, and there was always a lot of shitty comparisons and even boasts about things that existed on the competition, but they just didn’t advertise it (because they had it so long)
Like the G5 Vector computing. Turns out, instructions like SSE on intel / AMD was basically the same thing. They just didn’t brag about it anymore

8 daysTheo De Raadt, is that you?
I’ve noticed a few communities where the mods haven’t ever contributed to the community (and its dead), or / and haven’t even posted anything to lemmy in years.
Just a FYI, you can ask Lemmy World admins to takeover ownership of communities community and actively moderate it, to help revive it
It seems there were a few people who simply grabbed the community names when Lemmy grew, and had to plans to contribute to them.
Some of the communities that were affected , I’ve seen have a lot of potential (like some of the larger linux distros).

8 daysI’ve never understood the point of these articles.
What does anyone gain by attacking other linux distro’s? It’s not like people don’t give Linux Mint a chance… I’m not a fan of Snap, but, there are many who are…
Ubuntu also offers SLA’s to companies (15 years support) and Linux Mint doesn’t offer paid support, and there are likely many other reasons to use Ubuntu over LinuxMint.
Use what best suits your requirements.
Only game in the last 20 years I’ve probably spent 100hrs on. Maybe even forever

10 dayswell… No… And of all the people discussing this (I mean not the far right idiots on facebook who benefit from doom scrolling), you’re the only one who seems to be pretending its a bad thing…
You don’t have any evidence that what you’re saying will be true… And, you don’t have any better suggestions.
I think maybe you don’t understand the law…
Getting rid of the algorithm basically means that you’ll be given a list of posts you subscribed to… That’s it. It’s easy to skip ads (we do it on a daily basis). The big issue is at the moment, there is no stop to the feed. Even if they shove in 10 ads, the feed ends fairly quickly if you’re only subscribed to 100 people (you start hitting posts you saw yesterday).
People are scrolling for 30mins or longer at the moment, because the feed never ends. And thats what shitty political parties like One nation rely on, because they flood facebook with so many bot accounts and garbage, that it fills that feed. You’re guaranteed to hit them because the rage bait drives engagement and discussion (not in a good way)
The other alternative would be to REQUIRE everyone to prove their identify for facebook, and ban anonymity. And, that law would be harder to pass. But, then we could validate all the bot farms
The other issue is false advertising. IF it gets excessive, Meta will likely be pushing (more) deceptive ads too, and will likely just meet a new legal challenge

10 daysThen people will just switch… People hate excessive ads. Either way, win win.
At the moment, the situation is even more fcked, and there is no options. Would you prefer the current ragebaity way?

10 daysIt won’t… The difference is that the feed will be shorter for the day, so doom scrolling will be more boring

It didn’t take long for more info to come out about the A20, and the suspected compromises that are being made on the iPhone: https://wccftech.com/apple-a20-solder-joint-leak-base-iphone-18-compromises/ . I also used to sell their gear for 3 years
Pretty much every company has been busted cheating on benchmarks, including Nvidia and Intel (its easy to do, just detect the starting frames, or/and the exe). And, I spent all of last week optimising code using benchmarks (and profiling)
On Desktop applications in particular, Apple’s biggest failure has always been GPU. Which is why testers often test things like encoding (it has a chip designed to accelerate video encoding), CPU, and rarely games.
Like my M2 Mac Studio looked awesome in benchmarks (Toms hardware did one too). They didn’t test games, because if they tested things like Raytracing, they would have discovered the M2 never had raytracing built in (and, computers which cost the same price DID at the time)
My Mac Pro looked awesome on paper too (it even needed FB ECC Dimms to work). The GPU was absolute slop compared to what PC’s were shipping, which is why sites only ever seemed to test Apps…
If someone like Steve was testing this, I’d trust it immediately. But the entire premise of the article is around 1 benchmark… And for all we know, they might have been testing against absolute crap products
