  • Someone else said you should try the most recent version. They’re right. You just copy the file into some place like ~/.local/bin/, set it executable with chmod +x and add its location to your $PATH. You will need to apt remove yt-dlp from your system to get rid of the old apt version. From that point forward using the -U flag when you invoke yt-dlp will first check for and install an update if needed before doing the thing you asked for.

Someone else said Reddit is closing off their api. This is so.

You’re getting 429 so try changing your vpn endpoint and see if that helps you out.

  • It hasnt been small since 98.

Everything already works, Linux support is ootb for almost every new piece of equipment that comes out nowadays. Literally what is missing?

Your pretext seems flawed too since the kernel llm decision is in keeping with the way it’s been for years and there wasn’t really an alternative to llm use with the number of patches flying in from llm sources.

Just generally what do you think is happening in the world regarding Linux? Are you referring to c/linux on .ml?

  • The main reason open source projects are pushing to formally adopt a policy around (allowing) llm use is that they’re already using it.

If there was a unified front between the contributors and the community against llm use, how much code would have to be reverted and rewritten? Most likely a bunch. How long would that take? Most likely a while.

Now perhaps they handle it quickly or truly didn’t have any llm work in their code base, how will they handle the flood of legitimate bug reports from llm testing?

If you’ve ever worked in a trade where your role is split up in an assembly line you know that the person behind you getting access to a new tool that makes them faster necessitates you get a new tool that lets you keep up.

  • If you used two phones, one on WiFi and the other on cell data then the cell data provider wouldn’t be able to see what the WiFi phone is doing.

However: personal data and use patterns can be correlated so there are ways to track you still but not directly as a cell data service provider.

Your question is borderline incomprehensible. I’m not saying that to shame you, since it seems like English is your second language and speaking or writing in a second language is very hard.

You might get some good use out of a translation app or service. For complex and precise questions like the one you’re asking it can help with clarity.

  • You will not find a hardware manufacturer or operating system company that doesn’t work with/in Israel either directly or through subsidiaries.

The iof has one of the most advanced cyberwarfare divisions and actively uses the country’s compulsory military service as a way to cycle people through the military and out into industry.

E: I wanna be clear that I’m not saying you should give up but that you should instead recognize the constraints you’re under if you want to make good decisions. And that you should use adp on icloud.

  • Appletv4k

Get the last version instead of this one because it’ll save you a pile of money and you’ll still have updates for seven years.

E: if you haven’t ever bought Apple stuff secondhand, they take extreme measures to prevent theft and reselling which takes the form of device lockout. What this means is that someone might be selling a locked out device that can’t be recovered to you. Make sure you actually see that the device goes to the first time setup screen (or have the seller do a reset in front of you) or use a marketplace like eBay that does very easy returns.

  • Yeah that’s the problem: accepting that there is some other failure happening, broadly defined as a lack of “q” factor, forces people to grapple with the fact that open source has historically been the purview of the bad programmers self promoting their learning projects.

There are cases to the contrary of course and that’s not the rule, but no one cared about these behaviors until now and their care is all focused on ai use as opposed to the behaviors of the programmer in question.

Your response is a perfect example: even though you’re declaring what the person is responsible for you can’t articulate what the consequences of that responsibility are.

I’m not picking on you either, this has been a problem for thirty years, oh you just graduated? Grind away at the gnu tools or some open source stuff so you have something to point at in interviews. Youre reimplementing an x feature in windows having finished a book on c++? Throw it up on sourceforge.

  • What indeed!

Why what stops law enforcement from simply telling dns providers, with the force of a judges order behind them, that “your” domain should point to their servers which proclaim it to have been seized, or which clandestinely record the comings and goings of “your” visitors?

Has this ever happened in the past, and if so, what resources and mechanisms were put into play to accomplish it? Is this series of events a concern of yours?

These questions and more, not answered by me!

  • Since speaking directly to the proposed change didn’t do much, here’s an alternative to “banning ai slop”:

Ban the thing that’s happening. If there are too many “low effort” posts, ban low effort posting. If there are too many posts about non open source packages, ban posting about non open source software. If you really don’t want people self promoting with open source (a thing they’ve been doing for decades!) then ban self promotion.

The problem with all the things I just suggested is that they require serious consideration on the part of a moderator. “Is this post too low effort?”, “is this person promoting themselves in a way the community doesnt want?” and “is this post even about open source?” Are questions that require moderator effort. “Was the repo signed by Claude?” Takes no effort to answer.

Of course kicking kids out of the sandbox for not playing right kind of defeats the purpose of a sandbox and placing unnecessarily high barriers to entry on the commons defeats the purpose of a commons but what the hell do I know…
