Technology@lemmy.world•Anthropic’s IPO pitch includes a warning about human extinctionbyPushButton@lemmy.worldEnglish
4 daysThere is a train race. Just like car racers, you have train racers putting coal in the engine, pushing the machine forward the finish line.
At one point, a few racers are saying that they are moving at incredible speed and everything is “so hot”.
As any train, you own the speed, not the track! At one point, a racer might say that the current speed is too fast if a sharp curve is coming, but that he cannot stop putting coal in the engine because slowing down might cost him the race…
That’s what is happening.
N.B. I don’t agree with AI LLM and all that, I am trying to explain as best as I could.
See the Skeleton sport too…

Technology@lemmy.world•There's a new way to break RSA that's faster than anything we've seen beforebyPushButton@lemmy.worldEnglish
8 daysThe practical risk is limited, but still significant. Applying the attack against the deprecated use of 1024-bit keys took a handful of months on an academic CPU cluster, significantly less than the current estimates for 1024-bit factoring that would require resources that only nations or companies with massive resources could achieve. Widely used RSA implementations are also safe.
Bold emphasis is mine. It’s a nothing Burger article.
