  • basically all the peeks to the “backside” (ratman’s dens?) from the test-chambers are pretty different, but they were fairly cosmetic anyway.

after the last chamber & the fire/furnace, it’s like entirely different game. Different puzzles, different … everything. Some ideas of original games’ rooms there are similar (like the giant room with many turrents), but execution is VERY different. Which, incidentally, is the place where I left off as the darn turrents killed me repeatedly. x)

And tbh, it’s been few years since I last played portal (any of them). I think I’ve played through portal 1 probably 4-5 times? So I’m not THAT much “in the know” with all the rooms/tidbits.

  • now that I have played this (haven’t finished it yet, though), only the beginning of the mod was what I’d call as identical to original - apart from the graphics. One or two rooms had slight changes from what I can tell.

The later parts in the “back areas” are wildly different from original. I dunno if the change or design is really good or bad, but at least I’m not just mechanically doing puzzles I already knew by heart and I’m having fun.

  • yea, I’m aware. It’s actually fairly baffling how stable windows’ APIs are, generally like 20 year old windows game/application works fine on wine/proton. few years old linux game from steam? not so much. I have had this happen on few games now: Euro Truck Sim 2, Trine, probably some others but these came to mind.

Chronicon’s linux version worked, no complaints there, but it just didn’t detect the dlc in any way. And tbh I didn’t even know there was a linux version until I started wondering why my dlc wasn’t working :D

Anyway, game works & all is fine :)

  • Kien’s runtime also improved with AMDNR version 0.3.4. On an AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT at 1440p (FSR Quality), the update cut the neural network pass from 73 ms down to 52 ms, yielding a 29% drop in render time.

So, assuming the game’s own render pipeline is instant (ie. 0.0ms, entirely unreasonable, but whatever) - 1000/52= ~19.23, so at unrealistic ideal conditions the DLSS ai-nonsense-pass runs at ~19 fps with the metioned hardware & resolution

edit: 1000/73= ~13.7, so hooray for the 6 extra frames. It is massive uplift in terms of percentage, but still unusable for gaming, imo.

  • AFAIK, not the first game to sell a tat-collection without a game, and imo, not entirely unreasonable - but before my crucifixion, hear me out: The tat-box is platform agnostic, and can arrive whenever and the customer is playing their game on whatever platform they wish (or, can) when it’s sold separately. If you absolutely need to have the collectible tat, no need to wait (as long).

But… 400 units of money for that tat? AbsofuckinglutelyNOPE.
