This is basically “winamp, but it plays (exclusively) .ogg files instead and is heavily optimized to provide the lowest CPU usage possible” – there’s an equalizer, playlist, a volume bar. A feature that minimizes CPU use when the application is on the foreground. And yes, the graph does work and is perfectly syncronized with the song. And all you see here are purely made of code – no .png or .bmp files included, don’t worry about it. And logically, no need to run wine or some other shoddy translation layer – it all runs natively on your PC.

CPU usage is comically low, as you can see here (tested on a orange pi 5 max):

To unpack the file, download dependencies and compile (on a debian distro, while in the same directory as where the llamamp.tar.gz file has been downloaded): tar -xf llamamp.tar.gz && sudo apt install -yq build-essential pkg-config libsdl2-dev && make -j$(nproc). Install it with sudo make install.

Compatibility: Pretty much anything you’ve got. It runs on X11, wayland or on nothing at all.

How to use it: Run “llamamp /path/to/song.ogg” or use the playlist.

  • You can also set up debian to be a rolling release-based distro as well – which is comically easy to do. (All you have is to edit a text file and swap a word for “sid”.). And it’s as stable as you’d think.

    t. Running Armbian (which is “debian for arm pc’s”), rolling release. Been running (and updating) it since a while and not a single weird oddities happened (like crashes, instability, etc).

* YMMY obviously -- it'll be different if you run this on a literal potato. But it do be like that on a orange pi 5 max, however: https://i.imgur.com/WiKaszO.png

This nice little piece of software is the perfect mix between “I want to run something cool whilst at the same time something that is effective and runs everywhere” – a Windows 95-themed application launcher that runs on either X11 or wayland (or even on nothing at all!) and provides all possible binaries on your distro from a list… which you can scroll up and down using your mouse scroll wheel or by clicking on the scroll bar (Yes, it works just like the one on Windows 95). Or you can type something, get a couple suggestions up and run the binary you want by either pressing enter or by double-clicking with the left mouse button.

That [X] over there? If you click it, it’ll shut down the application window. Or you can press ESC.

Also, no .png, .ttf files or anything of the sort – all the things you are seeing are purely made of code.

To get you a working binary, simply download the provided tarball on the link above (which I made it like that due to some folks finding it easier than repository cloning, so eh)… unpack it. Download the required dependencies (Type “sudo apt install -yq build-essential libsdl2-dev make” if you are on Debian), then type “sudo make -j$(nproc) && sudo make install” and then type “win95run”.

This is under the “DO WHATEVER YOU WANT” license. Should be self-explanatory.

  • Sadly, this whole scheme has been resumed into “Don’t use Omarchy because they are nazis!” – “Oh? And where you got that idea from?” – “B-b-because It’s what they are!”. It’s nothing else than a shit-flinging contest, with no logical/coherent reasoning other than typical emotional/impulse-driven reactions for the sake of “feeling included”.

Also, it’s sad to see at how this community went downhill fast because of politics, and on how the mods shrug at these posts – we are, indeed… reddit now.

A demo of a lone palmtree on an island, with a fps counter on the top left. The camera moves around freely, but can be interacted by zooming in or out. It has a day/night cycle of 5 minutes… with the shadow following along the sun/moon. It also has a soothing sea sound, plus the eventual seagull. If you want to make your ARM device “explode”, this is it. Focuses on GPU usage.

Download it by clicking here.

Download dependencies (Debian): sudo apt install build-essential libsdl2-dev libvulkan-dev glslc

Requirements:

Vulkan 1.2

SDL 2

A GPU with compute shaders support

Keys:

Reduce render resolution with -, and + to increase it.

Zoom in with mouse scroll wheel up. And out with mouse scroll wheel down.

How to compile:

Download the tar file provided in the link above.

Decompress it

Download the required dependencies

Enter the decompressed directory

make -j$(nproc)

Then run it by typing ./lonepalmtree
