Hi all,
There are a number of apps on the Android App Store that enable you to lower the minimum backlight brightness (or claim to), but I’m looking for de-Googled FOSS options.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Sounds great! I use MCP proxy, too, but have run into some services it just wasn’t happy with.

Hah, you can watch my site: https://nowsci.com/ as I put everything there.
I’m very nearly at daily usable by everyone, including my partner who has a very different accent to mine. A lot of it was tuning sentences/words to catch poor STT to skip going to an LLM to speed things up and make it reliable. Here’s the current hardware in action:

@[email protected] yes, Ive tried a lot of LLMs and have settled on Gemma 4 2b with a very specific prompt and local MCP tools for unit conversions, weather, lookups, etc.
For Q&A, my current build uses an MCP container I made to do a SearXNG search and top result retrieval for context (I use a trick to weight Wikipedia results). The final step I haven’t completed is for this to be a backup to Kiwix, for which I also haven’t found a great search tool/index/MCP, so if you want to collab on that I’d be interested. One less thing for me to build myself ;)

I’m building a fully private assistant with local Home Assistant, local model, and a local Wikipedia database for lookups. Will probably make a post/release of it soon once I finish replacing all my Google Nest displays.

The idea behind GrayKey Preserve and Evidence Preservation Mode is to keep the iPhone in a state known as After First Unlock, or AFU.
They don’t need to access before a warrant. The whole point of this new method is to keep the phone from going into BFU so they can pull the data off later, when a warrant comes through. (Or again, on the record)

You’re forgetting one key fact: https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/mormon-population-by-state
I’m on graphene and see it. Your device may not support HDR.

Interestingly they are taking a different route with this data than they usually do (in the article).

Yea, I’ve recently learned LineageOS has an AndroidTV version that runs on a lot of devices, including the Pi. Been considering investigating that.

Key fact:
Officials involved in the investigation pointed to gaps that they said were left after Hegseth dismantled most of the Pentagon’s civilian harm mitigation, or CHM, units — cutting headcount across a number of teams by roughly 90% to fewer than 20 staff members, people with direct knowledge of the matter said. Centcom’s team was reduced from 10 to 1.
No CHM team member reviewed the Minab site before the strike, according to officials involved in the internal investigation. That was a consequence of the cuts in staffing but also a decision not to involve the group in planning and operations, the officials said.
This is less about an AI mistake and more about a culture shift (which leads to an over-reliance, but is heavily a “we don’t care”).

Very true. I do have a let’s encrypt wildcard cert that I also use with internal IPs for instances like this. But most of my items don’t require that.

It is surprisingly easy to add a custom CA to phones and laptops. When I migrated to services using one with names like thisservice.lan I thought it would be a lot harder. I just have a generation script that makes a new cert and I throw it in NGINX.
Hi all,
We’re looking to get off Rackspace’s email as the Spam filtering is pure garbage. We’re going to avoid the Googles and MS’s of the world, and I’m wondering if this community has suggestions for mail providers that run FOSS services (and are public about that via support), and/or are privacy focused. Note: Proton is a no-go due to having to run an IMAP middle-man service.
Thanks!
He got called out on this by the judge, too.
