  • Fads? Science on intelligence is solid and progressing steadily. We now can point to specific neural processes that determine how well brain operates and explain differences in intelligence. Popular understanding of intelligence is still stuck on basic IQ tests used to compare completely different populations. At some point some feel-good concepts like EQ caught on and it was fashionable to dismiss IQ as ableism or something. You can still see a lot of it but I guess enough research on intelligence is done and some of it still leaks through to the public.

  • All those things matter:

    • number of EVs on the roads
    • number of private chargers
    • number of public chargers
    • average range
    • average charging speed
    • average trip distance

For EVs to work you need to have adequate combination of all of them. You can’t simply say “charging speed doesn’t matter” while ignoring range, number of EVs and distance people travel. Why do people insist on focusing only one thing at a time? First it was all about range, not it’s all about charging speeds. It’s not that simple.

  • First, people are comfortable with having smart speakers recording everything they say and sending it to some random people to listen to so…

Second, it’s like social media algorithms that are designed to be addictive. The other day someone used ChatGPT voice assistant next to me and it’s designed to sound like an actual person. It speaks in a very natural, casual voice and makes those very short pauses, like it’s thinking about the answer and what words to use. It’s clearly trained on some voice messages people send to one another. It’s designed to sound like one of your friends. I can easily imagine someone using it once to ask about tree frog mating rituals or something and get hooked. I can imagine anyone falling for this and quickly treating it like a person. It’s build for that.
