I had to read it like 3 or 4 times before I understood. Just confirming every intrepretation was bonkers until I remembered trucks are a thing.

Achtually! Silicon is the 14th element on the periodic table. Sand is (mostly) Silicon Dioxide, SiO2.

You are right, Internet friend. My humble thanks for the education.
- lauha@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
Yes, I had to check before making the comment because I had a hunch it would be close.
- zergtoshi@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
I wasn’t sure that silicon still has only 1 neutron per proton, so I had to check as well.
Looking again at the periodic table it seems like some elements before and after silicon already have an extra neutron per proton (even the majority of lithium has an extra neutron!) - gotta keep the nucleus together, right?
- frongt@lemmy.zipEnglish6 days
No. Atoms of different elements have significantly varying masses. H2O, for example, is two hydrogens for an atomic weight of about 2, and one oxygen with a weight of about 16.
- lauha@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
You are wrong. Atomic weight of silicon is 28 and oxygen is 16. Two oxygens weight 32 which is greater than 28.
Sand is mostly oxygen.

Kinda like how plants grow structurally by using the carbon from the CO2 they absorb. Imagine gaining mass by breathing.

KitKat managed to turn a stolen truck into a marketing campaign. I wouldn’t be surprised if NVIDIA was trying to do the same thing.
- 6 days
Cause it likely is.
Edit: thinking about it further we have never heard of, nor seen, an Nvidia branded trailer. We have never heard about one getting stolen before. Now suddenly 2 get stolen, and were bait? Who were they baiting?
- frongt@lemmy.zipEnglish6 days
Who’s “we”? Do you live near an Nvidia facility? If not, then there’s no reason you’d be likely to see them.

No mention of this being run by police, and why would Nvidia advertise on the sides of trucks? Lots of mentions of the transport company name.

But this article is stating that it was a ruse to fool the thieves unfortunately.
- cecilkorik@piefed.caEnglish6 days
Well, that’s what they claim now. It might just as easily have been a ruse to fool investors.

Don’t worry, they didn’t read the article either, since it actually says nothing of the sort.
