I mean, pre-order bonuses for the remake of Ocarina of Time (on Switch 2) vary on region: Japan gets bonus art cards, stickers and a paper stand while both the UK and some EU countries gives buyers spiritual stones (France has a wallet) & Canada gets a N64 slipcover for the game. The only thing “universal” for pre-order bonuses is the textured foil cover, other than that: the USA doesn’t have anything unique given to people there.

Who cares? Nintendo is as backwards as the rest of Japan. If you buy their products, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Why is America being treated badly?
Get used to it, You fucked the entire world economy for your stupid orange buffoon. You’re getting the short end of the stick from here on out.

As an American, I wholeheartedly agree. I’m tired of voting against and protesting this shit and the people who push it seeing no consequences.
Fuck our shit up world. We deserve it.

i mean this is it. there are so many tarriffs and weird finacial penalties, its just easier not to.
and i never had to do this before but these times call for it. get out and vote. someone here on lemmy said “voter polls are psyops” and i agree. people say, “no way trump csn win i dont need to vote”. “the voter polls say democrats will take over congress, i am not worried, i dont need to vote”… it only works uf we all vote. so please pleas, next month… vote.
again, being this pushy is not normal for me but hopefully everyone here can appreciate why.

Nintendo has basically always favored the Japanese market. This isn’t unexpected.

Yeah it was kind of funny seeing people complain about the DK Challenge cards not being available in Europe. Like, you guys get steelbooks for every major release. I wish I could get those steelbooks, not on ebay for the price of the game itself.
- PonyOfWar@pawb.socialEnglish1 day
I guess if you like steelbooks. Personally, I think steelbooks are pretty lame though, even by preorder bonus standards. What am I supposed to do with a second game box?
- 5 hours
I’m fine with steelbooks when it’s the only case you receive but like you said there’s absolutely no point in getting am additional case for you to choose which to use.

Japan getting bonuses has been a thing for a long time and not exclusive to video games. I remember having to use less than legal ways to get exclusive songs off CD releases from some of my favorite musical artists because only Japan got those exclusives. And they didn’t hide it either. The CD literally said “Japanese exclusive”.
The only reason I’ve found is that it’s to encourage Japanese customers to buy the merchandise in their region and not buy outside of it. I’ve heard it had to do with a weaker currency’s valuation in the Yen and so giving them exclusives made it less likely they’d buy from another country to save cash by getting the exact same product. That’s also partly why region locks are a thing to prevent people from buying in a cheaper region.

This may have been the case once.
Nowadays, buying from Japan as an outsider is in many cases a great way to save money, and has been for a few years now thanks to the, uh, interesting monetary policy coming from the Bank of Japan.

What is that policy? I’m not familiar with that.
Yeah, I’ve heard that before like the Switch 2 being cheaper than the US and the used market is much much cheaper in price and quality than the US for consoles and games.
