It’s doable, but you’ll need at least four heat pumps in series. Each one would bump up the temperature of the water, until you get 165 °C steam. The last few steps aren’t very efficient, but it’s still cheaper than using electrical heaters. Those heat pumps will take a fair bit of space and money. Oh, and those machines make as much noise as a big freezer. Other than that, it should be fine.

Move into a cold climate, and buy a house that has only electric heaters. Those were popular in the 70s, and nobody wants them now, so you can buy one with pocket change. Build a mining cluster in one bedroom and install air ducts to distribute the warm air throughout the rest of the house.

I would be more worried about the intentional bias. The temptation to use that leverage is far too great to be ignored. Only a fool wouldn’t take that opportunity.

The difference is that you can adjust your involvement to your liking. The role of an LLM in your writing process is what you want it to be. It could be as large or small as you consider appropriate.

Think of it like writing by hand vs. using a computer with good writing software. You can’t really reorganise your manuscript if it’s written on paper, now can you? That would require rewriting the whole thing. Also, spell checking takes a lot of time, and you probably won’t even notice your grammar quirks. Computers make writing easier and faster. An LLM is another tool, just like the simple editing features we’ve taken for granted for the past 30 years. Ask again in 20 years and people won’t even think of writing without an LLM, just like writing a report by hand is completely absurd today.

You can come up with an idea, and you can write the first draft. Then, you need to specify what kind of processing you expect the LLM to do. Could be punctuation polishing, refining the structure, expanding, suggesting improvements etc. If you’re really lazy, you’ll write a 5 line summary, and let the LLM improvise an entire scene based on that alone.

It’s up to you how you want to use this tool. If you let an LLM write entire sections, you’ll begin to notice a familiar tone emerge. Better keep it on a very short leash.

LLMs can’t be trusted to do anything serious, but they can do some boring low stakes tasks. That’s not what their marketing material says, but it was written and approved by liars, so who cares.

Apparently not. Although, it could also be a matter of someone being responsible for a decision like that. If they allow the AI to report users straight to the police, who will be held responsible when things go wrong?

What if you’re writing a fictional story and the AI can’t tell the difference between fiction and actual plans to do something illegal? Just to be safe, it sends the cops after you, because your story has some scary words. Better not write anything about murders or violence I guess.
